Preview engagements will be held in Detroit and Philadelphia, with the company arriving at Chicago's LaSalle Bank Theatre, 18 W. Monroe St., on July 25.
Opening night will be Aug. 1 in Chicago, and a slew of Disney honchos and others associated with "High School Musical," which began as a Disney Channel movie in 2006, are expected to attend. The show then will remain at the LaSalle Bank Theatre through Sept.
2. Eldon says the show then will tour to as many as 60 other cities, with a Broadway run remaining a possibility, perhaps in 2008. Disney also has licensed the show to high-school and non-commercial groups (including Chicago's Emerald City Theatre Company) and has even authorized an ice-show version, headed to Chicago in 2008.
