April 1, 2007 -- IT S not going to be difficult to read between the lines Tuesday when you see Buck the World on record shelves. G-Unit prodigy Young Buck fashioned the title of his new album - the follow-up to 2004 s platinum-selling Straight Outta Ca hville - as a response to critics who he says took cheap shots at fellow members of his crew. People starting discrediting G-Unit because Tony Yayo and Mobb Deep failed to go platinum after 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks and I did, Buck says.
Like gold is a bad thing? There were some pretty foul stories in magazines and on TV, and none of us appreciated them. We win and lose together as a family.
Buck, born David Brown in Nashville, Tenn., blamed piracy and bootlegging as major factors that kept his comrades from reaching the million-seller mark and him from stealing the show a little more than two years ago. In August 2004, Buck had a tremendous first-week debut, finishing just behind R.
Kelly and Tim McGraw on Billboard s album chart. I was excited for the city of Nashville that McGraw was No.1, Buck jokes, but I knew those damn bootleggers cost me the top spot.
Despite the overwhelming success of his major-label debut, Buck, 25, thinks it wasn t even close to his A material. Recorded on the fly on a studio bus during the Rock the Mic Tour, the album doesn t boast one high-profile produced track. It was definitely rushed, and I don t think the lyrics were sharp, admits Buck, who s currently in talks with Interscope Records co-chairman Jimmy Iovine about a potential movie project.
But this time around, the rap game should be very nervous. Usually that kind of statement is little more than a rapper s boast. But working with twice the budget and a murderer s row of guest artists, Buck may be on to something.
Dr. Dre produced the hypnotic You Ain t Going Nowhere. Snoop Dogg dropped verses for I Ain t F - - - ing With You.
And Eminem came out of hibernation to help record Murder, Murder. The entire G-Unit posse, including 50 Cent, is also on hand. We always do things together, Buck explains, and after this album is released we ll be celebrating together like a real family does.
