Vintage Skylines are just plain cool. But if you want to get a hold of an original GT-R, you'd be getting off light by just having to amputate a few extremities.
The next best thing then is to build your own and that's exactly what one enterprising gearhead in Sammamish, WA did.
Based off a 1971 KGC10-series chassis, the owner began by swapping out the stock mill and replacing it with the venerable L28, 2.8-liter inline six, complete with a trio of Solex side draft carbs, a set of stainless steel headers and a Trust exhaust.
15x8 inch RS Watanabe wheels are fitted at all four corners and the front brakes have been swapped out with units pulled from an R32.
The owner admits that this particular clone isn't a concourse-ready ride, but aside from a few rust spots and some interior ailments, it's a suitable weekend car that easily proclaims your appreciation of the finer things from across the Pacific.
Unfortunately, the owner wasn't able to unload his creation when it went up for sale early last month.
$15,000 doesn't seem like a bad deal for a 1971 Skyline GT-R ndash; even if it is a clone ndash; so we hope that it's found a loving home in the meantime.
Thanks for the tip, Chris!

In London, the black cab has instant recognition, cult appeal, a 25-foot turning circle, Euro IV emissions clearance, and drivers behind the wheel who don't earn their licenses until they've memorized the contents of a book simply called The Knowledge.
Now, thanks to an unnamed buyer, the black cab also has a pink paint job.
LTI Vehicles produces London's trademark people mover, the current model being the TX4. LTI will make the cabs in any color, and this particular buyer decided to test that proposition, requesting a one-off version in candyfloss pink.
The 4-man paint shop team mixed to order, and Mike McKenzie, one of the painters, called it "the most outlandish" cab they've done so far. The interior remains a muted black, so if you ever get a ride in it, only those on the outside will see how pretty you look in pink. The buyer paid a surcharge for the special color -- but the question is: would you?
Here's a : mix one red 3rd-generation RX7, a clear Sunday evening, a 2-lane rural road, and a curve. Then add the sudden application of 255 turbocharged horses, a berm, a tree, and a brand new owner.
There was no word on the driver, but the airbag went off (do they protect against trees?
) -- and one assumes he made it out all right. In a bittersweet moment, the hitting the tree kept him from hitting the house just beyond the tree. tell the story.
Thanks for the tip, Evan!

One of the curses I've faced as a recording engineer is that the symphony of every day life drills itself through my skull. It can be quite distracting.
People try to converse with you, and all you can focus on is the groovy rhythm coming from a rattly interior bit. Avant-garde musicians and composers have been attuned to the music life creates for many years. John Cage, for instance, wrote pieces that use big fans as an orchestral section.
Cage's 4'33 would be the perfect cellphone ringtone, but until that's available, I'd settle for a piece penned by University of Maine music professor Philip Carlsen.
Inspired by Cage's work, professor Carlsen came up with "Car Life: a traffic jam session for automobile orchestra." There aren't too many traffic jams at the Framingham, ME campus where the performance occurred, but for a fleeting moment in time, you could close your eyes and imagine yourself in Manhattan.
Initially, the idea was to arrange the automotive orchestra by the timbre of their horns and also incorporate warning buzzers and alarms, but it ended up as a more random affair. There was a "chorus" of Toyotas, however. Like many modern artistic endeavors, not everyone will get it.
It's as much a cacophony as incidental music or musique concrete ever was, but we definitely appreciate Carlsen's goal of encouraging people to tune in to the sounds of the world as a type of music.

Most of you probably remember the , the German automaker's sensational three-wheeled sports concept that stunned LA Auto Show attendees in January of 2006.
After a roller-coaster ride of -or- speculation, including spy shots of a mule , VW because in today's litigious society, the risks to the company were deemed too great.
Enter , an entity that has apparently been set up to gauge public interest in seeing a production version of the GX3 come to fruition. In the email we received from Aaron Mady, the owner of the DefiantMotors.
com domain, he states that if there is enough interest, the ultimate goal would be to partner with Volkswagen to market a production GX3 as a Defiant-badged vehicle "so that they will not be liable for consumer education that the GX3 is a motorcycle." We have no idea what kind of resources Mady and/or Defiant Motors has at its disposal, so the viability of making step 2 happen is completely speculative.
We're not legal experts, so we'll have to defer to others more versed in matters such as this to determine whether such a situation would or could work.
If you do have experience in this arena, we'd like to hear from you in the comments. And Defiant would like to hear from you if you're interested in parking a GX3 in your garage. It may be pie-in-the-sky, but it sure is an interesting idea, and it's just another great example of the kind of grassroots effort you can mount via the Internet.
To Mady's and Defiant Motors' credit: they're trying.

General Motors is cited as a "significant advertiser" on the show, though likely is keen on keeping its distance from Imus while he continues to make matters worse for himself.
Imus appeared on the Rev. Al Sharpton's radio show on Monday to apologize, and yesterday appeared on the NBC Today show with Matt Lauer, neither of which has helped to quell calls for his resignation or firing.
He'll begin a two-week suspension levied by his employer, CBS, this Monday, though whether or not big name advertisers like GM will return after a fortnight is unclear.
GM joins American Express, Sprint, Staples, Proctor Gamble Co., TD Ameritrade and Bigelow Tea in suspending or dropping altogether an association with Imus and his radio show.
UPDATE: After viewing a report on the Imus controversy on ABC's World News Tonight, we noticed that Ford Motor Company is also a sponsor of Imus' radio show, though to our knownledge has not decided to suspend its advertising.

We'd be willing to bet it's not easy buying for the typical Maserati owner. If they can afford such a fabulous, expensive car, they've probably bought all the DVDs and socks they will ever want.
But now Maserati rushes to the rescue with their official merchandise shop.
Whether its a $41 Maserati or the rhodium-plated, silver (shown above) for $112, there should be something your trident-loving guy or gal will get revved up about.
On our wish list is the for a reasonable $10 and the not-so-reasonable limited edition 1:10 scale for $676.
And while the store doesn't go so far as to carry Maserati-branded hosiery, they do have .

Channeling Forrest Gump, the subtitled, 2-minute spot turns "Run, Forrest, run!" into "Drive, Forrest, drive!"
Taking the man who was born to run as their guide, the AlmapBBDO agency dressed a fellow in Gump's trademark style and had had him tell a story about taking his little red Golf from one side of the country to the other. The commercial is quirky enough, but if you can follow the links in Portuguese, you'll even get to drive your own (Shockwave) Golf from one end of your monitor to the other, and that's exactly the kind of neat little time-waster we expect from VW.
